As part of our 5-year International Official Partnership with Wounds Australia, the International Skin Tear Advisory Panel (ISTAP) is proud to support Wound Awareness Week 2025, taking place 1–7 September across Australia.

Each year, Wound Awareness Week shines a spotlight on the hidden epidemic of chronic wounds – a condition affecting more than 450,000 Australians annually. But the impact reaches far beyond those living with wounds. Families, caregivers, healthcare systems, and entire communities all feel the effects.

This year’s theme, "Wounds Affect EVERY Body," reminds us that:

  • Everybody gets wounds – any cut, graze, or tear in the skin.

  • Every wound can become chronic if not treated properly.

  • Many chronic wounds can be prevented or healed with the right treatment at the right time.

  • Every chronic wound impacts lives – physically, emotionally, socially, and economically.

We encourage our ISTAP members, colleagues, and partners to join the movement:

Our partnership with Wounds Australia, announced in September 2024, is designed to raise global awareness about wounds – especially skin tears – and to improve healthcare system performance and patient outcomes. Together, we share a commitment to prevention, early intervention, and best-practice care for all wounds.

By sharing knowledge, delivering high-quality professional education, and working side-by-side to amplify awareness campaigns like Wound Awareness Week, ISTAP and Wounds Australia aim to create a lasting, positive impact for people everywhere.
