Ms. Johlene Sander began her nursing career in 1989 at Volks Hospital in Cape Town, where she qualified as an Enrolled Nurse. She then transferred to 2 Military Hospital and completed the Diploma in General Nursing to become a Registered Nurse.
She advanced her education with a Post-basic Diploma in Midwifery and a Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Administration from the University of Stellenbosch. After serving as an Operational Nursing Manager in the Surgical Ward, she completed the Holistic Wound Management Course at the University of the Free State.
In 2015–2016, she deepened her wound care knowledge and experience while working in the private sector with wound care specialists. Upon returning to 2 Military Hospital, she was appointed as the Wound Care Specialist, offering wound care advice in the Surgical, Maternity, and Orthopaedic Wards. She also provides in-service training and collaborates with various industry representatives to enhance wound care practices at the hospital.
In 2016, she was elected Chairperson of the Western Cape Regional Chapter of WHASA (Wound Healing Association of Southern Africa), and in October 2018, she facilitated the National Congress where she was elected National President. Her first official duty in this role was signing a Memorandum of Understanding as a “supporting society” for the 6th Congress of the World Union of Wound Healing Societies in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Since January 2019, she has been consulting daily with patients requiring advanced wound care at the newly commissioned wound care clinic at 2 Military Hospital. In addition to her wound care responsibilities, she also serves as a military nurse, which includes deployment to operational areas. She recently celebrated 30 years in the nursing profession and currently works as a Clinical Nurse Practitioner at 2 Military Hospital, Cape Town.
She has also completed the International Interprofessional Wound Care Course (IIWCC) at the University of Toronto.
