Dr Melanie Stephens is an Associate Professor in Adult Nursing at the University of Salford, England. Prior to joining the University 22 years ago, Melanie was a Tissue Viability Nurse in Greater Manchester. She then joined the University of Salford as a lecturer in nursing and quickly became module leader of the Tissue Viability and Leg Ulcer Management Modules. She went on to develop Salford's MSc Nursing Practice Programme in Tissue Viability. Melanie is now a health and social care researcher, who still contributes to the MSc programme. She has conducted studies with colleagues regarding pressure redistributing properties of seating, night-time therapeutic positioning, virtual wound care clinics in Uganda, impact of interprofessional student training care homes, a systematic review on the Lanarkshire oximetry index and more recently skin tears in mammography and nurse led diabetic foot clinics and self management education programmes in Uganda.
